AKC's S.T.A.R.

Puppy S.T.A.R. Class Dates:
Tuesday December 8th 7:30 pm Large breed
Wednesday January 13th 6 pm Large Breed
Tuesday January 12th 6pm Small Breed
There are two main goals in helping develop your puppy between 12-20 weeks: teaching bite inhibition and correctly socializing.
You will socialize your puppy to a wide variety of people, especially children, men, and strangers. Well-socialized puppies grow up to be wonderful companions, whereas antisocial dogs are difficult, time-consuming, and potentially dangerous. Teaching your puppy bite inhibition develops a soft mouth. Whenever a dog bites a person or fights with another dog, the seriousness of the problem depends on the seriousness of the injury.
In a perfect world, you will successfully socialize your puppy so that he thoroughly enjoys the company and actions of all people, all dogs, and all animals. More realistically, though, accidents happen. When dogs are hurt or startled, their natural response is to snap, lunge, and even bite. Even wonderfully friendly dogs may feel inclined to protect or defend themselves when picked on by other dogs and people. You can’t wait to teach this skill, it must be done very young. It is impossible to make up for lost time. Don’t waste puppyhood!
Learning the skills and techniques to ensure your puppy develops a reliable bite inhibition and an ultra-soft mouth is the primary reason for you to attend Precious Pet Paradise's off-leash puppy classes. Your puppy needs to play with other puppies.
The most enjoyable priority of dog ownership is to accustom your well-socialized, soft-mouthed puppy to the world at large and prevent the development of predictable adolescent problems, thus assuring that he remains well-socialized and soft-mouthed.
The
S.T.A.R. program is designed to get puppies and their owners off to a
great start, and requires that owners attend a basic training course
with their puppies. Dogs up to the age of 1 year may attend.
It is a Six week course, owners & puppies must attend all Six classes.
All dogs need the necessary components of the program including Socialization, Training, Activity, and a Responsible owner.
Puppies that attend this program are well socialized and learn the skills that are the basis for all other learning.
This is a 6 week class, meeting weekly and is $99
to find out more information.

Our instructor, Lorraine Gaudio will tailor training techniques to different dog characters and attitudes. You will learn how to apply learning theory of Classical and Operant Conditioning. Most animals respond quickly to positive reinforcement with the use of a verbal marker or clicker. You pet will want to work for you and shorten the learning process. The goal of dog training and our course is to build a bond between pet and family and for both to enjoy the process.
